Pillory Barn Contact Us

Welcome to Emily, our newest recruit!

This week we welcomed a new recruit – experienced PR Emily who has joined us from a top London agency. She loves food and travel so we think she’ll fit right in!

Tell us a bit about yourself

I graduated from the University of Southampton in 2016 with a BA in English and History. Before joining Pillory Barn, I was an Account Executive at Luxe PR, a London agency which specialises in luxury hotel, spa and restaurant public relations. My clients included Sopwell House, a hotel and spa in St Albans; Royal China Group; and Bang Bang Oriental, London’s largest Asian food hall.

What is your favourite read?

I’m a huge fan of Time Out – both the magazine and the website. It is a great place to find the best things to do, events, offers and places to eat and drink. The weekly #wordonthestreet feature in the print magazine was a particularly good read during my commute to London.

Who would be your dream client?

Without a doubt my dream client would have to be connected to food. There are so many restaurants doing interesting and new things at the moment that I would love to work with, including Dishoom, Breddos Tacos and Chin Chin Labs.

What’s your favourite brand?

There are a number of Kent food and drink brands that I really like, including Chapel Down, The Kent Cider Co. and The Zingiberi Bakery. It is great to see that a lot of local producers are going from strength to strength. It was even rumoured that Prince Harry and Meghan chose Chapel Down as their wedding wine, so the Kent vineyard must be doing something right!

If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?

The ability to teleport. It would be great to skip all the traffic and I wouldn’t have to worry about searching for cheap flights, I could just pick where I wanted to go and teleport there in just a second.

Favourite social media channel?

Definitely Instagram. While I only post occasionally myself, I regularly check my Instagram feed for foodie inspiration or to see what everyone is up to.

What’s your social media bugbear?

Saturated content is probably my biggest social media bugbear. It can be so boring to scroll down your feed and all you see are photos of the same Instagram craze whether it is #wisteriahysteria, the colourful houses of Notting Hill or a flower wall, all with very similar captions.

If you could share a meal with any four individuals, living or dead, who would they be?

I would have dinner with Jessie Ware, Richard Ayoade, Stacey Dooley and David Bowie. It’s a bit of an eclectic mix but I think each of them would bring something different to the table.

What do you do in your spare time?

I’m a lover of all things related to food and cooking, whether that is creating my own recipes in the kitchen or watching the latest cookery programme on TV (Masterchef Australia is a personal favourite!)

I enjoy seeing as much of the world as I can at home and abroad. Now that I am working locally I am aiming to discover all the best places that Kent has to offer. As a keen bargain hunter, I love an affordable European city break, in the past couple of years I’ve ticked off Dubrovnik, Budapest, Madrid, Verona and Porto. Next on my list is Bratislava and Malta.

What object could you not live without?

My passport.

Sum up yourself in three words

Happy, laid-back, friendly.

What’s the most exciting project you’ve worked on before?

I’m still a relative newbie in the world of PR, but one of the projects I have most enjoyed working on was promoting a new afternoon tea at Sopwell House. In order to boost press coverage, I wrote a tips release on how best to enjoy scones and whether jam or cream should be put on a scone first. I’m particularly proud of the fact the press release was picked up by a number of national titles including Good Housekeeping, The Lady and The Sun.
